Frequently Asked Questions About Oral Surgery

An Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon is a dental specialist who has completed four additional years of hospital-based surgical training after dental school. Dr. Soung is a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He performs procedures like wisdom teeth removal, dental implants, and corrective jaw surgery.

Rest for the first 24-48 hours, apply ice packs to reduce swelling, eat soft foods like yogurt and applesauce, and avoid using straws to protect the blood clots. Dr. Soung provides detailed post-op instructions at your appointment. You can find more on our wisdom teeth recovery guides.

Good candidates have healthy gums, adequate bone density, and are in overall good health. A consultation with Dr. Soung includes a 3D CT scan to evaluate your jawbone and determine the best approach. Even if you have bone loss, grafting options can often make implants possible. We cover this in our dental implant FAQs.

You do not need a referral. Patients can call directly to schedule an appointment. Dr. Soung works closely with general dentists and specialists, but you are welcome to come in on your own. If your insurance requires a referral, our team will help coordinate it.
